About
Everything the independents carry, in one search
6,014 independent businesses across 49 Seattle neighborhoods, with what their own online stores list, so buying from the shop down the road is as quick as buying from a warehouse.
What this is
A search engine for Seattle’s independent shops, restaurants and services, and nothing else. No chains, ever. It is a pilot: one city, built in the open, and it gets better every day rather than every quarter.
When a shop publishes its catalog online, we check it every few days and put the items in the same search box as everything else, with the price the shop is asking. When you buy, you buy from them, on their own store. We do not take the order, and we take no cut of it today.
How a shop gets here
- It exists. The directory starts from OpenStreetMap, the public map that shopkeepers, cyclists and volunteers keep up to date, filtered to independent businesses inside the city.
- It is not a chain. Chains are removed by brand tag and by name, and the line is ownership rather than size: a much-loved local with four locations belongs here, a national with four hundred does not.
- It has a catalog, or it does not. If a shop’s website publishes its products, we detect the platform and sync the items (how that reading behaves, and how to stop it, is on the reader page). If not, the shop is still listed, with its hours, its street and a way to ring it.
Nothing on that list involves paying us. A neighborhood page may carry a sponsor. A sponsor is clearly labelled as one and changes nothing about which shops appear in the listings or in what order. See the terms for what that means in practice.
If a listing here is yours
Your page was built from public information, which means it may be thin or out of date, and you did not ask for it. Three things you can do:
- Claim it from the form at the bottom of its page, and we will get in touch to check you are the owner, then fix whatever is wrong and add what is missing.
- Correct it without claiming anything. Tell us the hours or the address on the contact page and we change them.
- Have it removed. Ask on the contact page and it comes down within a day. No reason needed, no argument, and it stays down: we hide the listing and its items rather than delete them, so the next import from OpenStreetMap does not put it back.
Same for a buyer who spots something wrong: the contact page is the fastest way to reach us, and it is read by a person.
What we log while you browse, and what we deliberately do not, is on the privacy page. This page was last changed on 1 October 2026.
