The madronas along the bluff got mistaken for magnolias by an early Coast Survey mapmaker, and nobody has seen much reason to fix it since. Up on the plateau, Magnolia Village runs its small-town main street along W McGraw St, while Discovery Park's old Fort Lawton grounds and the West Point light hold the peninsula's far corner.
